ARE WE TOO BUSY TO HAVE A LIFE?
Caption: If your entire life is work, deadlines and responsibilities, when exactly are you supposed to enjoy the life you're working so hard to build?
We live in a culture that celebrates being busy.
Ask someone how they are doing and “I'm busy” almost sounds like an achievement.
Busy with work.
Busy with school.
Busy building a business.
Busy creating content.
Busy answering messages.
Busy chasing opportunities.
Busy trying to become a better version of ourselves.
And somehow, being exhausted has become proof that we're making progress.
Here's a question we don't ask often enough:
What if being busy isn't the same as moving forward?
There is a difference between having purpose and having no room to breathe.
We can become so focused on the next goal that we forget to experience the present one.
We tell ourselves:
“When I make more money, I'll rest.”
“When I finish school, I'll enjoy myself.”
“When the business becomes successful, I'll travel.”
“When things settle down, I'll spend more time with family.”
But life rarely completely settles down.
There will always be another deadline.
Another bill.
Another opportunity.
Another goal.
Another thing demanding your attention.
And if you keep postponing your life until everything becomes perfect, you may spend years waiting for a version of life that never arrives.
Rest is not laziness.
Having hobbies isn't a waste of time.
Spending an afternoon doing absolutely nothing productive isn't necessarily failure.
Calling a friend just to talk isn't a distraction from your goals.
Sometimes, these things are part of what makes life worth living.
We need to stop treating every minute that isn't productive as wasted time.
You are not a machine.
You don't have to constantly produce something to justify your existence.
There should be moments when you simply sit down, breathe, laugh, listen to music, take a walk, enjoy a meal, watch something silly or have a conversation without checking the time.
Because what is the point of building a successful life if you are too exhausted to enjoy it?
Ambition is beautiful.
Discipline is important.
Hard work matters.
But so does balance.
Don't spend your entire youth preparing to live someday.
Don't wait until you have achieved everything before giving yourself permission to enjoy something.
Work hard.
Build.
Dream.
Grow.
But also live.
Because life isn't the reward you receive after you've finished all your responsibilities.
Life is happening while you're busy trying to figure everything out.
