“She's lazy.”
“He doesn't take school seriously.”
“She's just not interested.”
We've all heard these descriptions of students who don't participate much in class. But what if the problem isn't always laziness?
Sometimes, students disengage because they're bored.
- Repetitive lessons,
- predictable assignments,
- Teaching methods that don't challenge them can make learning feel like a chore.
That doesn't mean every unmotivated student is secretly bored. But before labelling a student as lazy, it may be worth asking a better question:
“What is making this student switch off?”
Sometimes, the right challenge can wake up a mind that looked completely uninterested.
