THE THINGS WE ONCE CHERISHED

THE THINGS WE ONCE CHERISHED

NOKIA PHONE.
There was a time when owning a mobile phone was a big deal.
Not just any phone, but a Nokia phone that could survive falls, boast an impressive battery life, and keep you entertained with Snake when there was nothing else to do.
Back then, a phone was more than a device. It was a treasure. Some people protected theirs like gold, while others proudly showed them off to friends and neighbours.
ANTENNA RADIO?

And who remembers the antenna radio?
The kind that required a little adjustment before you could hear your favourite station clearly. Sometimes, you had to move the radio closer to a window, stretch the antenna, or turn it in a particular direction just to get a clear signal.
Yet, listening to music and catching the news felt like an experience of its own.
TELEVISION ANTENNA.

Then came the television antenna.
Watching television could become a family project.
Someone would stand outside or adjust the antenna while another person shouted instructions from inside: “Turn it small! No, the other side! Stop there!” And just when the picture became clear, nobody dared touch anything again!
CASSETTE PLAYERS.

We also had cassette players, CDs, VCDs, and DVDs.
Music wasn't always something you searched for and played instantly.
Sometimes, you waited for your favourite song to come on the radio, recorded it, or borrowed a friend's cassette.
Watching a movie could mean visiting a video rental shop or waiting for someone to bring home a disc.
CALLS FELT DIFFERENT.

Even making calls felt different.
You memorised important numbers, borrowed phones when necessary, and sometimes had to wait patiently for your turn.
Missed calls could carry entire messages, especially when airtime was expensive!

Of course, those days were not perfect.
Technology has made communication faster, information easier to access, and many everyday tasks much simpler.
We can now video-call loved ones across continents, capture thousands of pictures, and carry entire libraries in our pockets.
But somewhere along the way, we may have lost a little of the excitement that came with those simpler experiences.

Today, a new phone can become old news within months.
Entertainment is available at the tap of a screen, and we rarely have to struggle to find a radio signal or adjust a television antenna.
Perhaps what we miss isn't necessarily the old technology itself.
Maybe we miss the memories attached to it: the laughter, the patience, the shared experiences, and the excitement of having something that felt special.

Technology has moved forward, and that's a wonderful thing. But every now and then, remembering the things we once cherished reminds us that happiness has never depended entirely on having the newest thing.
Sometimes, the simplest things leave the biggest memories.
